They are drinking, enjoying, and gambling for their own money.

And they are happy.

That’s the classic atmosphere in a typical casino night.

All of these games have really big fanbases, but none of them are as popular as the typical slot machine.

Whether you’re a newbie or have spending years and years in the casino rooms, you can truly never go wrong with a slot machine, and its free spins.

Or commonly also known as fruit machines.

This one-armed bandit (as some people like it call it) is the timeless piece of casino culture that everyone needs to try at least once.

What are its roots and how did it grow to be this popular, even after all of this time?

Here are some of the basic facts about the slot machine and its inventor.

Charles August Fey and His Magnificent Discovery

Even though the first model is way too different than what we are familiar with today, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t as good.

Fey invented it in his basement in 1894, believing in himself that this will go places.

Many people didn’t support him, but it turned out to be one of the breakthroughs in the gambling world!

And Charles Fey quickly became a celebrity!

These machines were everywhere, and everyone wanted to get a taste of them.

Even the city was forced to ban them, in 1909.

But, nevertheless, they somehow kept going and are the classic fun pace for a gambling night today.

What Do Fruits Have to Do With Slot Machine?

Because many people know these ‘slot machines’ as ‘fruit machines’, we can’t help but a question.

What exactly do these fruit symbols mean?

As the legend says, you couldn’t win any money at the beginning of the slot era.

So, instead of valuable things, people were gambling their money for a piece of chewing gum.

And the fruit symbols represented the flavor you will get.

People loved having fun and winning gums at the same time but the slot machines soon turned out to be a money-winning machine.

No one cared about chewing gums anymore.

But after all of this, the classic fruit symbols stayed.

For good!

The Modern Era of Video and Electronic Slot Machines

As we all know, the future of the casinos is in technology.

Even though no one thought it would be this way, it turned out that the electronic era is crucial for the video machines.

And even though we may not know what it may happen in the next years, we dont think it’s going to go downhill.

After all, the slot machines are the most popular casino game; what else do you need besides it?
